Miriam Cauchi

Soprano Miriam Cauchi has performed extensively and has established herself as a leading interpreter in opera, art songs and Maltese music.

Miriam has represented Malta internationally at the Berlin Konzerthaus, Festival-Mitte-Europa Germany, Maribor National Theatre Slovenia, Varna Theatre, Provadia Theatre, National Palace of Culture-NDK (Bulgaria), Lucca (Italy), Lisbon (Portugal), and at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center (USA).

She has shared the stage with world renowned singers like Maria Guleghina, Francesca Patane, Joseph Calleja, Badri Maisuradze and has worked with international conductors Lior Shambadal, Eric Hull, Steven Mercurio, Hans-Peter Hofmann, Michalis Economou, Philip Walsh, Maltese conductors Joseph Vella, Brian Schembri, Michael Laus and international directors Mario Corradi, and Marco Gandini.


Operas performed include L’Elisir d’Amore (Adina), Un Ballo in Maschera (Oscar), Pagliacci (Nedda), Le Villi (Anna), Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica), Turandot (Liù), La Bohème (Mimì), Rigoletto (Gilda), La Traviata (Violetta) and Otello (Desdemona).


Other works include Handel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Abos’s Stabat Mater, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Mass in C, Vassallo’s Requiem, Camilleri’s Pawlu ta' Malta, Lloyd Weber’s Requiem, Strauss’ Vier Letzte Lieder and Brentano Songs Op 68, Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder, and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5. She also premiered Vella’s Dust on the Path orchestra cycle, Kant ta' Mara A cycle for soprano cello & piano and Vella Gregory’s song cycle Mill-Qamar sal-Qabar.


A graduate from the Sofia State Music Academy "Panchio Vladigerov" in Bulgaria she is the recipient of the Gheorghi Slatev Cherkin Competition and the Bulgarian XIV National Competition Svetoslav Obretenov. She is a major ambassador of Maltese vocal music, singing and recording important compositions by Abos, Camillieri, Diacono, Isouard, Vassallo, Vella and Zerafa.


Her CD – Miriam Cauchi Riflessi – Art Songs from Malta –  was the very first compilation in this genre. She currently holds the post of senior voice tutor at the Malta School of Music. On the 13th of December 2009, Miriam Cauchi was appointed by the President of Malta to the National Order of Merit – M.O.M.
