Pau Armengol Torrella

Senz Sal

Born in Sabadell, Barcelona, Pau Armengol started his studies in piano in his hometown. His interest for the singing voice came later and he studied voice technique with the bass-baritone Carlos Chausson. Furthermore, he has followed masterclasses by Jaume Aragall, Raúl Giménez, Eva Mei, Matthias Goerne and Mariella Devia.


After obtaining his PhD in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, he won the Mirna Lacambra Competition to enter the Sabadell Opera Studio, where he debuted with the role of Leporello (Don Giovanni). Subsequently he was admitted to the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo opera-studio at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia de València, where he completed his basic training.


He has sung the roles of Leporello and Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Dulcamara and Belcore (L’Elisir d’Amore), Colas (Bastian und Bastienne), Sagrestano (Tosca), The Baritone (The Four Notes Opera), Martino (L’Occasione fa il Ladro), Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte), Marullo (Rigoletto), Betto di Signa (Gianni Schicchi), Silvio (Pagliacci), among others. In the field of Oratorio, he has sung Mozart’s and Faure’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, El Retablo de Maese Pedro from Falla, J.S. Bach Johannespassion and Mathäusspassion, and several Cantatas from the same composer, as an example.


He has performed in theatres such as Gran Teatre del Liceu, Palau de la Música Catalana or L’Auditori in Barcelona, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in València, Kursaal in San Sebastian, Euskalduna in Bilbao, Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, among others. He has been conducted by maestri such as Gustavo Dudamel, Mark Minkovsky, Susanna Mälki, Roberto Abbado and Plácido Domingo.
